Install vCenter Server 7.0

Earlier this year VMware has announced the most comprehensive software stack for modern applications – the VMware Tanzu portfolio, VMware Cloud Foundation 4 and vSphere 7. It brings a massive improvement in the work experience of vSphere administrators.


We have discussed about the new features and enhancements in vCenter 7 here.


In this article we will discuss about the steps to install new vCenter server 7.0.


1. To Download the VCSA ISO, login My VMware.


2. Go to Download Products > All Products > VMware vSphere > View Download Components


3. Select the Version as 7.0 and download the ISO as per your License requirement.


4. Mount the ISO once the download is complete.


5. Navigate to vcsa-ui-installer Folder.


6. Go to win32 Folder. To launch the installer, right click on the installer and Run as administrator.


Installing a vCenter Server is a 2 Stage Process.


Stage 1 -

7. For new installation of vCenter 7.0, click on Install.


8. Review the Introduction part and then click on NEXT.


9. Read the End user license agreement carefully. Check I accept the terms of the license agreement box and then click on NEXT


10. Specify the target ESXi host or vCenter Server name where you would like to deploy the new vCenter server. Enter the User name/Password and click on NEXT.


11. Click on YES to accept the SSL thumbprint from the selected host.


12. Enter the name of the vCenter server VM and set root password. Click NEXT.


13. Select the Deployment Size according to your environment and click NEXT.


14. Select the datastore on which you would like to place the vCenter VM. Also Enable Thin Disk Mode.


15. Configure the Network Settings and Click NEXT.


16. Review the settings and click FINISH to start the vCenter deployment.


vCenter Server Deployment will start. You can view the progress on the screen.


17. Once the Stage 1 is complete click on CONTINUE to start Stage 2.

Stage 2 -

18. Click on NEXT to begin Stage 2.

19. Select the Time synchronization mode and enable SSH Access. Click on NEXT.


20. Select appropriate SSO configuration method as per your requirement and then click on NEXT. Here I've created a new SSO Domain.


21. Configure CEIP option and Click NEXT.


22. Review the settings and click on FINISH.


23. Click on OK to finalize the setup.

You can monitor the progress on the screen.


24. Click on CLOSE once the vCenter installation is completed successfully.


25. You can access the vCenter server 7.0 from a supported browser by using <VCFQDN> and then click Launch vSphere Client (HTML5). Once you're logged into the vCenter, you can start creating Datacenter, Clusters and start adding ESXi hosts.
