The Cloud

In the world lead by innovations, cloud computing is perhaps the most vibrant technology innovation of this century. It is changing the way how businesses used to run. Also, it's not just for businesses or organizations; it's useful for the average person as well. For example, it enables us to store files on a cloud and access it via internet from any location, any device.

In this blog post we will discuss about what is cloud computing and why it's important for businesses in the modern era.

What is Cloud Computing?

In a layman's term, Cloud computing is the on-demand delivery of compute power, storage, database, applications and other IT resources over the Internet with pay-as-you-go pricing.

So instead of buying and maintaining physical data centers and servers, you can access these services on an as-needed basis. The one who provides these services is known as Cloud service provided. There are many Cloud providers in the market today such as Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services and many more.

Why is Cloud Computing important?

The cloud computing revolution is been truly transformative over the last few decades. There are numerous benefits to adopting cloud technology, which is why more and more organizations(From Big corporate Giants to new start-ups) are embracing cloud services to run their day to day operations.

Let's discuss some of the major benefits cloud computing has to offer -

Quick Deployment

Cloud Computing gives you the advantage of rapid deployment. Your entire system can be fully functional in very few minutes on Cloud as compared to the On-Prem environment.

Accessibility

Cloud computing facilitates the access to your data from any location worldwide and from any device with an internet connection.

Lower Cost

Prior to the advent of cloud computing, many businesses had to run their own On-Prem computing resources. Switching from On-Prem IT infrastructure to remote servers provided by cloud provides allows businesses to make significant cost savings as these resources are paid for on a pay-as-you-go basis which means businesses pay only for the resources they use.

Security

Data security has always been one of the hot topics. Cloud providers always ensures that the clients data is kept secure.

Scalability

You can easily scale up or scale down your business as your need changes. So instead of purchasing and installing expensive hardware for yourself, your cloud provider can handle this for you.

Flexibility

In todays world, flexibility is very crucial. The needs of clients are changing all the time according to the business requirement and businesses need to be adaptable enough to adjust.

Cloud Computing offers more flexibility as compared to hosting a server locally. For instance, you need extra bandwidth, a cloud provider will be able to supply you with this instantaneously without the need for you to undergoing a complex (and expensive) update to your IT infrastructure.

Mobility

Cloud Computing enables employees to access the files they need from anywhere and thus allowing them to work. All they need is a device with an internet connection.

Reliability

Reliability is one of the biggest benefit of the Cloud Computing. With cloud computing, all your data is stored in the cloud, which means that you should be able to access it so long as you have an internet connectivity.

Disaster Recovery

One of the problems with the traditional legacy IT infrastructure is that it’s likely to be more prone to failing causing downtime for the entire business operations.

Cloud computing ensures that disaster recovery is much easier than it might otherwise be. This is because important data is stored in third-party data centers, thereby making it easier to retrieve in the event of unplanned downtime.

Automatic Updates

In a traditional/On-Prem environment IT Team have to handle software updates, so that the technology they’re running on is up to date and all the security vulnerabilities are patched up.

With Cloud computing, Cloud providers generally take responsibility for this themselves, instead of forcing an IT department to perform a manual organization wide update.

Increased collaboration

Cloud computing makes collaboration a simple process. Individuals from different places can collaborate in business projects without necessarily having to meet.

Considering the numerous benefits that Cloud Computing offers which has helped many organizations/businesses we can definitely say that it's becoming a new normal.

In the next post we will discuss more about different cloud service providers like AWS, GCP, etc.
